The newest picture below is one of The Kid's big obsessions. She loves, Loves, LOVES to put things on her head. So much so, that I have had to hide some of her toys from her because she will put them on her head and then try to walk around. That's fine if it's a hat or something clear. But when she puts a blanket over her head and tries to walk around the living room? That is just a disaster waiting to happen.
I remember a couple of months back, I had come home from work and my mom and The Kid were watching Oprah and it was all about extraordinary kids. There was a 5 year old piano prodigy, a 12 year old girl whose paintings were selling for thousands of dollars. I started to get a little excited thinking of all the possibilities. As I was just about to say something about maybe R ending up on Oprah one day, the kid picked up a toy sand bucket, put it on her head, and proceeded to smack the bucket and then make noises to hear the echo. Oh well...I've always thought Oprah was full of herself, anyway.

Submissions now being accepted
I'm ready for a new title. This isn't really a journey to China and back to Iowa blog anymore. The winning entry will receive a special gift. And don't ask what it is, because I haven't decided yet.
Remember...references to pop culture are strongly encouraged. But keep it clean, folks. This is a family blog, after all.

My Funny Valentine
I got the kidlet a Winnie the Pooh loveseat/toddler bed for Valentine's Day. This was all a clever ruse on my part to keep her from dragging the entire contents of her bedroom out to the living room in order to make herself a throne upon which to watch her cartoons. Silly momma! I apparently missed the part of the description on the chair where it also can be used as a trampoline, a toybox, and a step stool. Don't get me wrong, she loves her new chair....but she never actually sat on it for more and 1/10th of a second at a time, because she was much more interested in bouncing off of it. There is nothing quite so humbling as being outsmarted by an 18 month old!!!!
I got some video of her wigging out on the chair and if I can figure out how to edit it, I'll post it soon. Happy Valentine's Day!!

Our first 6 months
I can hardly believe that R has been with me for 6 months. The time just seems to have flown by, but at the same time, I feel like she’s been with me forever. Sometimes I will watch her and I am just amazed because she is the perfect daughter for me. I do think that she was destined to be my daughter, and I was meant to be her mom-mom.
In just 6 months, she has gone from a waif-like 16 pounds to a healthy 22 pounds, grown almost 3 inches, and almost fills out size 12 month clothes (although she has a couple of 6 month outfits she can still wear). She has nearly mastered walking. Any moment, she will have running and climbing figured out. She is starting to talk. She can say mama (more like mom-mom), apple, light, night-night, hi, uh-oh (usually uh-uh-uh), lion, puppy (pup-pup), and kitty (kuh-tuh). She tries to say I love you, but it adorably comes out Aye yay yay. She has a little book with animal pictures and if you point to any of them, she will say the first letter. I don’t mean to brag, but the kid IS a genius.
She has gone from not knowing how to play or what to do with toys to a rambunctious, goofy little girl who I think is destined for either the circus or the US Olympic Gymnastic Team. I love to watch her every day as she explores her new world. She has a wonderfully weird sense of humor, just like the rest of her family. She is strong willed, but observes everyone and everything before making a move.
I love you, kiddo, and I can’t wait to see what the next 6 months have in store!
